The Thunderbird is the top main figure on the pole. Sitting between the
Thunderbirds ears is a frog. Below are three phases of the Thunderbird head.
The two links take you to othe views of the figure.

The head roughed out. An adze rests on the beak base. The beak is carved separately and fixed to the pole by dowels. You can make out the frog at the top of the photo.

The beak is placed in position to better judge the lines and eye size. The eyes are carved out and you can see heavy adze marks on the right of the face -- this is the beginning shaping of the mouth.
